The first race meeting and weekend of the year at Cartmel race course is always highly anticipated but this year excitement is on a whole new level.
Firstly the Saturday afternoon fixture has been reinstated so race goers don’t need to wait until Sunday to see some horse racing action as well as great food and drinks. The main race day, is as usual, Bank Holiday Monday and the family friendly fun day with further racing and entertainment on Wednesday June 1st. It is of course half term and whether you attend all 3 fixtures or just one, with a good weather forecast, it’ll be a day or days out to remember.
Secondly revel and enjoy well beyond the horse racing with not one but two musical performances. Saturday 28th its Simply Red touring as part of their Summer 16’ tour. The on Sunday 29th it’s the turn of Jools Holland and is Rhythm and Blues Orchestra along with Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall.
So with horse racing – around 7 races per day, picnics, trade stands, local producers and food suppliers to set you up for a full days racing and dancing as well as a fairground and children entertainments, this is a weekend at Cartmel Races not to be missed.
What to stay – The Lakeland Cottage Company, specialists in holiday cottages in the Cartmel area, are worth checking in case of cancellations and they have some odd day availability from Bank Holiday Monday onwards.
