Barbara Smith
Chair of ETAG

Barbara Smith is Executive Manager of Edinburgh Castle - Scotland's premier visitor attraction. She is Historic Scotland's representative on ETAG and is the project champion responsible for encouraging young people to think about a career in tourism and hospitality.

A mum of three, Barbara is passionate about the industry and the fun, fulfilment and remarkable range of opportunities it offers.

Simon Williams

Simon Williams

Simon Williams is CEO of Edinburgh Principal Hotels Association a role held since 2001 and was Chairman prior. He has been a Director of the Edinburgh City Centre Management Company since 2002. He also provides business development, consultancy, photographic and internet services in tourism and hospitality and counts visitscotland.com and SEEL as past clients.

Simon has 30 years in operations in hotels around the UK, latterly as MD for the Town House Company in Edinburgh until Dec 2001. He also runs two self catering lodges at Rowardennan, Loch Lomond.

David Cochrane

David Cochrane

After education in Edinburgh & studying hospitality at Sheffield University, David started working for the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh. He left there to join Gardner Merchant as a chef manager. This training experience led him into the Hotel and Catering Training Company. David has been the Training Manager at the internationally renowned Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire. He developed his passion for developing people to their full potential at Gleneagles.

Most recently, David was awarded the Industry Award from the Hospitality Industry Trust for Scotland, for services to the hospitality industry in Scotland. He has now joined the Trust and is shaping its direction for the next phase of development.

Sinead Guerin

Sinead Guerin

As regional Director for the East Central Scotland Sinead's role is to be the main point of contact, at regional and local level, with key strategic partners including local authorities, enterprise agencies and tourism groups to work to together to increase the value of tourism to the Scottish economy.

She is also responsible for VisitScotland's corporate reputation in the region.

Sue Stuart

Sue Stuart

A graduate of Edinburgh University, Sue worked at Gleneagles and Old Course Hotels before joining the Edinburgh Convention Bureau in 1992, becoming its Director in 2000. With the restructuring of Scottish tourism, she led the establishment of the ECB as a limited company in 2005. Sue recognises the power of business tourism not only to bring substantial economic benefit to the city (£38.5 million in 2005) but also its integral role in the life of the city, bringing together the academic, corporate and hospitality sectors for their mutual benefit.

Susan Watson

Susan Watson

Susan Watson is Tourism Team Leader in Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian. She is SEEL's representative on the ETAG Full Group and also on the Steering Group. SEEL plays a crucial role in growing the impact of tourism on the economy, with its activity focussed on high impact business development, skills and product enhancement projects.

Susan chaired the Steering Group for the MTV Europe Awards when they were held in Edinburgh in 2003 and is currently a Board member of the Edinburgh Convention Bureau.

Graham Birse

Graham Birse

Graham Birse, Deputy Chief Executive of Edinbugh Chamber of Commerce. Previously Director of Marketing, Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board Director of Communications, VisitScotland.

Member of ETAG Main Group during time at ELTB and again now as Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce representing the private sector. Responsible for the original proposal to develop the Edinburgh city/region brand. Co Chair of Brand Working Group.

Douglas Logan

Douglas Logan

Douglas is Managing Director of Speciality Scotland Travel - a Destination Management Company providing services in Scotland for the overseas Travel Trade. He is Chairman of the Tourism Policy Group of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and represents the Chamber on ETAG.

He is also Chairman of the Scottish Destination Management Association (www.scotland-sdma.org.uk).

He is a graduate of the Scottish Hotel School and a Fellow of the Hotel & Catering International Management Association.

Peter Williamson

Peter Williamson

Peter Williamson is the Managing Director of NMS Enterprises Ltd, which manages the commercial activities of the National Museums of Scotland including Retail, Hospitality and Events and Publishing divisions and is a member of Unique Venues of Edinburgh. Formally General Manager of the Edinburgh Marriott, Peter has a Higher Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management and a Masters Degree in Hospitality Management, both from Napier University.

Ian Broadfoot

Ian Broadfoot

Ian was the City Centre Manager with ECCM (Edinburgh City Centre Management Co Ltd) and now continues as leader of Essential Edinburgh - the city's first Business Improvement District (BID). He has been with the company since 2002 and has a background in town centre management and economic development. ECCM was a not-for-profit company charged with promoting, developing and improving Edinburgh City Centre, primarily to create the conditions for business to prosper and for citizens and visitors to enjoy. ECCM paved the way for the BID and was latterly the prime agent for the successful development of St Andrews Square and its opening to the public.

Kenneth Wardrop

Kenneth Wardrop

Kenneth McMillan Wardrop is a tourism professional with twenty years of experience working in Economic and Tourism Development in the Public Sector. He is currently the Economic Development Manager with the City of Edinburgh Council responsible for Economic Policy and Strategy, Tourism, Edinburgh's Winter Festivals, and Access to Training and Employment. Kenneth is also a Director of the Edinburgh Convention Bureau Limited. Kenneth has been involved with ETAG since its conception inputting to the development of strategy and the action plan, and facilitating and supporting the partnership.

Ian Coupar

Ian Coupar

Iain joined Lothian Buses in October 1999 and became Marketing Director in 2001. Iain was previously with Stagecoach as their Marketing Manager for Scotland as well as Oxford and Swebus in Sweden. Previously, Iain worked with British Aerospace, involved with the marketing and communications of the Jetstream aircraft.

He has been on the main ETAG board since its conception advising on public transport issues.

 

 

 
Alastair McIntosh

Alastair McIntosh

Alastair has spent over 40 years in The Scotch Whisky Industry and latterly 20 years in the Tourism Industry as Managing Director of The Scotch Whisky Experience and a number of other Directorial roles in the Scotch Whisky Industry.

Alastair was the Director of Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board for 5 years and the first Chairman of ETAG (2000-2003). He is currently an active member of The Capital Group, Chairman of the Castlehill Partnership and a member of the Tourism Group of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.

Jackie Shuttleworth

Jackie Shuttleworth

Jackie focuses on media and communication issues for ETAG. She is also the PR Manager for Edinburgh Airport. Prior to this she worked as a broadcast journalist, latterly for Radio Forth in Edinburgh. She lives in the capital with her fiancé Paul.

Fiona Michie

Fiona Michie

Fiona Michie is a Project Manger in the Tourism Team with Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian. Fiona represents SEEL on the ETAG Full Group and also on the Steering Group. Fiona also supports ETAG Project Champions to develop and implement a range of initiatives defined in the ETAG Action plan.

David Hinnrichs

David Hinnrichs

David has been Chairman of the Edinburgh Hotel and Guest House Association over the last five years and is also on the executive committee of the Scottish Guest House Association which has been formed over the past year. His involvement in the trade started at college, from there he went to work in some of the biggest hotels in Scotland. David gained a wealth of experience here which helped him achieve the position he is in today, with a successful business of his own. David is a am a firm believer in increasing and maintaining standards in the hospitality industry.

Malcolm Duck

Malcolm Duck

Malcolm Duck is the proprietor of Duck’s at Le Marche Noir Restaurant and Chairs the Edinburgh Restaurateurs Association in Edinburgh. He also owns Kilspindie House and chairs the Golf Tourism Alliance in East Lothian. Malcolm also sits on the UK Restaurant Association committee and is an ETAG project champion for engagement with restaurant and retail business.

Raoul Barbier

Raoul Barbier

Raoul Barbier is the Tourism Team Leader at the City of Edinburgh Council. He has worked with the Council since 1992. The tourism team is responsible for delivering many of the ETAG projects. In addition Raoul's team manages the Council's support and funding for VisitScotland and Edinburgh Convention Bureau Ltd. Raoul is a founder member of the ETAG steering group and full group. He says "I feel privileged to work with a great team and many committed people."

Susanna Freedman

Susanna Freedman

Susanna is the founder and Managing Director of Edinburgh-based brand communications consultancy, Tsuko.

With over a decade’s experience in the design and marketing industries, she has worked in the UK and in the US. Tsuko works extensively with the tourism sector and Susanna’s enthusiasm for Edinburgh and Scotland.

Susanna is a member of the Edinburgh committee of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and the Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland. She bring the voice of SME’s, directly and indirectly associated with tourism, to the ETAG table and is the project champion for ‘making tourism everybody’s business’.

Susanna was recently awarded the IoD Director of the Year Award 2005, for the Edinburgh, Lothian & Borders regions. She has been a member of ETAG since 2004.

Fay Jameson

Fay Jameson

Marketing Manager of Ocean Terminal, a 500,000 sq ft retail and leisure destination which opened on Edinburgh’s waterfront in October 01. In addition to formulating the marketing strategy for Ocean Terminal, Fay recently took on a role of providing marketing support for the property development team at Forth Ports PLC, co-owners and developers of the centre. Fay is also Chair of Leith Initiatives for Tourism (LIFT), a group comprising local businesses, whose aim is to promote and establish Leith/The Waterfront as a tourist destination.

Pam Turnbull

Pam Turnbull

Pam is Senior Economic Development Officer with the City of Edinburgh Council and has been part of the Tourism team for just over a year. Along with two colleagues we work with internal and external partners to deliver growth in tourism visitor expenditure in the city. The ETAG projects with which Pam is most closely involved are scenario planning, tourism signposting and transport related developments.
