One of the projects undertaken in 2007-2008 was ...
Innovative Tourism Funding
In an effort to stimulate discussion around the subject of raising new funding to sustain and further develop Edinburgh's leisure and business tourism, ETAG formed a Project Group under the ‘Sustainability’ section of the Action Plan with the following objective:
“Inform and contribute to industry debate on additional forms of funding”
Visitor Levies, and other forms of taxes and levies were the subject of research by Deloitte. Two further research projects were undertaken: to understand consumer attitudes and the potential returns of increased funding from any source.
Deloitte research | Consumer research | Economic returns
A final paper on the project, summarsing the research referred to above, and pointing to a BID as a probable business model, was published on 28 July 2008. Download here.

ETAG also worked with Terry Stevens to produce an information paper, case studies and presentation.
These are reference documents in order to gain a broader understanding of funding concepts, visitor feedback and economic returns.
In addition ‘The Power of Destinations’ – is a far reaching report which may help readers shape their views on what a world class destination should look like.
